Company History

The company PTA Food Lab & Nutritional Services LTD was founded in 1993 by the Director, Mr. Pavlos Aspris, a young scientist at that time with broad entrepreneurial spirit and rich experience after his studies in the United States.

Our company has been established in order to create a modern microbiological and chemical laboratory specializing mainly in food that provides high quality laboratory services. Another goal of our company is to provide educational and advisory services to companies regarding the hygiene and the preparation of dietary products.

In a short period of time, PTA Food Lab & Nutritional Services LTD has built long-term partnerships with customers, based on the quality, speed, responsibility, reliability, high level of services, in addition to the competitive prices.

As part of the expansion of partnerships with customers, the company arranges a full range of services in addition to the Laboratory & Research services, advisory and educational services to always stand by its partners, constantly watching and contributing to their success. The areas of Consulting and Training services expanded to such an extent as to cover all the basic needs of businesses and organizations.

In 2009 the company relocates to a licensed privately own headquarters located in the 3rd industrial area of St. Sylas in Limassol, consisting of a modern complex build in 1000 m² area of 3000 m².

Today PTA Food Lab & Nutritional Services LTD is one of the largest accredited analysis and testing laboratories in Cyprus, offering all the latest technology in analytical equipment, covering most of the required laboratory tests on food market, beverages, water, animal feed and waste water (sewage).

The Laboratory has developed and established a Quality Management System in accordance with the International Standard ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 and accredited by the Cyprus accreditation body in 2013.

Laboratory Quality Policy

Our purpose is the proper functioning of the Laboratory of PTA Food Lab & Nutritional Services LTD, in order to provide high quality and reliable services, accurate and correct analytical results, harmonized with customer requirements.
Therefore, the Laboratory has developed and established a Quality Management System in accordance with International Standard ISO / IEC 17025: 2017, in order to provide test results that comply with the requirements of the Standard for the tests in which the laboratory has been accredited. The Laboratory is committed to implementing this standard and takes measures for continuous improvement of the Quality System.
The Laboratory seeks close cooperation with the operators, the partners and authorities in order to meet their demands improve the quality of services and to ensure the confidentiality of their information. Understanding the requirements of operators and collaborating institutions and the implementation of the applicable legislation in each case, are key steps.

The Laboratory:

Conducts its activities and testing always in the right scientific and professional way which ensures objectivity, impartiality, reliability and confidentiality.
Follows documented and validated methods that have been proven reliable and scientifically acceptable, based on recent scientific data.
When it’s necessary, applies methods that have been proposed by the client, by making the necessary processes required by the Standard.
Operates suitable, modern and well-maintained equipment and implements and maintains the appropriate Quality System.
Ensures accuracy and repeatability of the analytical results, in compliance with the internal quality control and participates in inter-laboratory proficiency tests.

The operation of the Laboratory is based on faithful implementation of the Procedures of the Quality Assurance System (QMS), as recorded in the Laboratory Quality Manual. All Laboratory staff, making use of the provided training shall:

Be familiar with the Quality Manual and developments,
Comply with the policies
Apply the procedures and contribute to the implementation of continuous improvement.
Management and staff of the Laboratory must be independent of any influence, commercial, financial or any other pressure in order to ensure the impartiality and reliability of the results.

The Laboratory Division seeks continuous development and improvement of the effectiveness of the Quality Assurance System by:

Setting specific targets and their corresponding implementation actions
Applying implementation mechanisms and control of results
Providing the staff with the expertise and all the necessary means and resources in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the Laboratory
Supporting the operation of the QMS and providing all means for:
continuous quality improvement of the Laboratory Services
The Laboratory Management committed to providing all necessary resources and means to implement the Quality Policy and to ensure the impartiality of the Laboratory. Also, it bounds to use Good Laboratory Practices and the reliability of results.
The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Laboratory Quality Policy.

Facilities and Equipment

The headquarters of the PTA Food Lab & Nutritional Services LTD are located in the 3rd industrial area of St. Sylas in Limassol, consisting of a modern complex build in 1000 m² area of 3000 m².

Is a licensed building designed specifically for laboratory use, following all the required specifications and includes besides the individual laboratories and administrative offices, a conference and seminar room where company events take place, special spaces for storage of samples in controlled environmental conditions, special places for record keeping, security systems, fire and gas leakage systems, and many other design innovations. All our laboratories are air conditioned with independent VRVs systems, ventilation systems and air filtering High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestance Filters (HEPA).

The Chemical Laboratory is designed with standards that promote the functionality of the analysis under specific conditions and the safety of the analysts. It includes receipt and storage of sample areas, receipt and storage areas of various materials (chemical reagents, glassware, laboratory supplies chemical etc.), special areas for the preparation of reagents and samples and analyzing areas with special instruments. The chemical laboratory is equipped with ultraviolet spectrometers, ICP-OEC, Mercury Analyser, Gass Chromatography, HPLC, ELISA, Laser spectroscopy, Advanced Cryoscopy Instrument, refractive index analyzer, atomic absorption flame spectrometers and graphite furnace, device for determining protein Kjeldahl nitrogen, fat determination using Soxhlet apparatus etc.

The Microbiology Laboratory is designed with standards that promote the hygiene of the samples and the safety of the analysts. It includes receipt and storage of sample areas, receipt and storage areas of various materials (substrates, reagents, consumables, etc.), special areas for the preparation of microbiological media, samples, incubation of the samples and areas for the destruction of microbial waste. The laboratory is equipped with laminar flow cabinets Class II, autoclaves, centrifuges, water baths, incubators, colony counters, microscopes, Fluorescence microscope, PCR, samples homogenizers / Stomachers, membrane filtration devices, etc.

The flow of the samples made with a prescribed manner, as described in our quality control procedures in order to avoid any contamination during handling and confusion between the samples, but also to keep the necessary confidentiality and traceability of the samples.
